Welcome to BYRON COURT PRIMARY SCHOOL
Welcome to Byron Court’s school community, where you will find a dedicated and experienced team of educators, who ensure that all pupils are welcomed, nurtured and supported to thrive, learn, develop, build strong friendships and have fun.
We are a large, growing primary school, admitting up to 150 pupils each year. We benefitted from a substantial building programme several years ago, to meet the growing number of pupils in the area. As well as increasing our capacity, this also developed our facilities significantly. We now benefit from an all-weather field, excellent food technology facilities, drama studio and large sports hall. Our kitchens were also developed effectively to cater for a range of dietary requirements and Halal meals.
As we emerge from the pandemic, we know that our children need to be nurtured to interact with others again and recognise that for some pupils, the pandemic has had an impact on their progress and attainment. Our curriculum and provision has been developed across the school, to ensure these issues are addressed. Each subject of the National Curriculum is carefully planned, with a range of skills and knowledge in place, for each year group to learn. We teach children how to apply their knowledge effectively and revisit it regularly, to ensure that is retained in their long term memory.
We have a focus on ensuring that all pupils develop the essential skills in communication. Our teaching develops children’s reading, writing and speaking skills systematically, with teachers using a range of strategies and pathways to meet individual’s needs. We teach children to learn about our diverse community, the city, country and world we live in, and to learn about the cultures, traditions and views of others. Our children are supported to remember facts, develop opinions and to be active global citizens.
We nurture a climate of mutual respect, trust and resilience, encouraging children and colleagues to dream big and work to achieve their goals. We nurture a ‘can do’ mindset in everyone while supporting children to develop a strong moral code. We teach children to think, reflect and to react appropriately under pressure of work and also in social situations. Our team recognise that not everyone gets this right all the time; we work carefully with children to develop friendships, make effective social and behavioural choices and to see things for others perspectives.
We know that the virtual world our children live in can be challenging to keep up with for parents. We continually evolve our curriculum to address emerging issues and support our children to make effective decisions while on-line, keeping parents informed of emerging issues.
Our community have told us that they liked how the school developed remote learning and felt well supported during the various ‘lock-downs’, we want to maintain these successes and further evolve how we support parents this year. We have needed to keep parents and carers at a social distance over the last few years, we recognise the importance of rebuilding our partnership as the pandemic begins to ebb. Leaders are always available on the school gates each day and from September 21, leaders will be operating a drop in café for parents and carers at the start and end of each day, we are here to listen, help and support our families. Please do come and have a chat, when you can.
Due to the pandemic restrictions, many families have not been able to see the school in operation since the rebuild. Following on from our successful tours for the new Reception families in the summer term, leaders will be running weekly tours of the school for both existing families as well as parents who are considering joining our school community. These can be booked in advance each week on our website. This is an opportunity to learn about the school, our curriculum and see us in operation.
We are looking forward to a productive year ahead and to working in partnership with our school community. We are all looking forward to seeing you soon!
