Byron Court @ Ashley Gardens

World Book Week

As part of World Book Week, the staff and pupils had a great dress up day in Fairy tale and Pirate costumes!

Ashley Gardens also had a visit from some Year 4 pupils and took part in Buddy Reading. It was thoroughly enjoyed by both the Reception and Year 4 children.

Year 1 Trip to Osterley Park

Ashley Gardens went to visit Osterley Park . They went on a minibeast hunt.
The children were excited about this trip because they were learning about
minibeasts and they were eager to find the creatures that they have learned
about. The children from 1PS had lots to say about the trip. Sai Danush said ‘I
saw ladybirds and butterflies’, Adriel said that he dug a hole and found a worm.
Sai thought that the trip was amazing and brilliant. Bhagyashri was our butterfly
queen she could catch flying butterflies with ease!
Everyone from Ashley Gardens thoroughly enjoyed the trip and their
experience at Osterley Park.

Queens Tea Party

At Ashley Gardens we celebrated the Queens 90th birthday by having a Tea Party! We made biscuits and cucumber sandwiches and sat outside to have a picnic, where we had decorated our garden with bunting. We learnt many things about Queen Elizabeth and her reign in the classroom- did you know she is the longest reigning Queen we have ever had in England? We also made some art work using images of the Queen now and at her coronation - we used Andy Warhol as inspiration and used bright colours in an abstract way, sequins, glitter and jewels to finish off our image.

Ashley Gardens Beach Day

We have been learning about the seaside through our five senses and poems. Some of us had not been to the beach before so Ashley Gardens had A Beach Day! We listened to the sounds of the beach, made ice cream, built sand castles, played in the sand and the water, played beach games and had fish and chips outside on our towels. We then went in and wrote postcards using adjectives to describe all the things we experienced on our beach day!

“It was the best day ever!” – Malachi, Rudraneel, Sergio and Aadhya.

No-Churn Ice Cream

By Good Food

PREP: 5 MINS plus freezing

EASY

SERVES 8

Condensed milk is a magic ingredient when making no-churn ice cream - the end result will be creamy, smooth and not at all icey.

  • Freezable

Ingredients

  • ½ a 397g can sweetened condensed milk
  • 600ml pot double cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Put the condensed milk, cream and vanilla into a large bowl. Beat with an electric whisk until thick and quite stiff, a bit like clotted cream. Scrape into a freezer container or a large loaf tin, cover with cling film and freeze until solid.

Fairtrade Big Breakfast

We had a Fairtrade breakfast morning at Ashley Gardens during Fairtrade Week. We used fairtrade ingredients such as fairtrade oats, sugar and bananas and had a drink of fairtrade chocolate. Over the week we learnt about what fairtrade means and how we can help farmers all over the world by buying the fairtrade products- we now know the symbol to look out for in the supermarket. During our special assembly with Mrs Grom, she told us all about the different fairtrade products we can buy and where they are grown- we found out that even children our age have to stay at home to grow food rather than be at school.

World Book Week

For Book Week Ashley Gardens had a dress up day and a visitor from Brent libraries. We dressed up as our favourite book characters and brought in our favourite book to show to our class. Our costume winner was Kaua in 1JT who won a book voucher to the book fair! Our runners up were Aadya 1JT, Zeinab 1PS, Danish 1PS and Jose 1JT who also all came in fabulous homemade costumes. We had a visitor from Brent libraries who came to talk to us about old artefacts and showed us how we can use these to make ideas for stories to write. We saw lots of interesting things including an old frying pan and candle stick holders! Image result for world book week 2016
