Mixed 3 vs 3 Basketball Tournament

Tuesday 7th February 2017

Byron Court entered the Brent Basketball Tournament with the pressure of being defending champions and the team everyone wanted to beat. The first of three group games was against another strong favourite, Salusbury Primary. It was a close game and despite going one basket down the team worked hard and pulled together to win the game 6-4. Now in their rhythm and full of confidence Byron Court blew away their next two opponents, Braintcroft and Gladstone Park, winning 10-6 and 16-2. In the semi-final Byron Court came up against another strong favourite, Preston Park. It was an extremely tense and close game that Preston Park managed to get a one point lead thanks to a successful free throw. It looked as though Byron Court were heading for defeat, but with just five seconds remaining As’ad managed to spin and shoot in one movement and watch the ball sink in the basket to give Byron Court a dramatic 2-1 win. Now only Sudbury stood in Byron Court’s way of becoming the champions for a second successive year. Still on a high from their semi-final win Byron Court raced into a 6-0 lead and never looked back. They controlled the final with ease and managed to win 16-10. They will now represent Brent at the London youth Games in July.

The team: Tyrece, As’ad, Simeon, Julia, Hanisha & Denisa.

Mixed 3 vs 3 Basketball Tournament

Tuesday 9th February 2016

Byron Court took 4 boys and 3 girls to the Brent Basketball Tournament at Capital City Academy. This tournament featured 11 other primary schools. The schools were placed into two groups of 6. Matches lasted 10 minutes each with the children all shooting in one basket.

In our group, we faced Donnington, Lady of Grace, John Keeble, Gladstone Park, and St Andrew and St Francis. We topped our group comfortably by winning all our matches. The scores were 5-1, 6-0, 1-0, 4-1, and 8-0.

Next we went through to the Quarter Finals where we faced Donnington again. The children recorded another victory against them and the match ended 3-1.

The Semi Final was our toughest match against the favourites Preston Park. For the first time in the tournament, we went 1-0 down. The children got fired up and Chloe scored the important equaliser. Next, sudden death; next basket wins. Our team were determined not to lose and did not stop intercepting the opposition’s passes and Chloe scored the crucial basket meaning that we were through to the final.

In the Final, we faced Wembley. The children were nervous and excited and recorded a comfortable victory, 4-0, meaning they became the Basketball Champions of Brent and will go on to represent Brent at the London Youth Games!!

After reaching the final twice previously, this is the first time that we have won. All the children played amazing and our captain, Abdul, lifted the trophy proudly. The Head of the Tournament said to our children that he was watching our matches looking for a MVP but could not single any of them out as they all played fantastically! Mr Khalfi and Miss Janger are extremely proud of the team and all the children that came to the training sessions to make our team the best in Brent.
