Brent Athletics Championships- June 2016
Brent Indoor Athletics Tournament
On Wednesday 27th January, Byron Court attended the Brent Indoor Athletics Tournament. It is a competition the school have never won and last year we achieved our best ever finish of 3rd place. The children were determined to at least equal the result of last year and even go for a medal higher despite only having two hours of training leading up to the tournament.
Byron Court got off to a fantastic start in the obstacle relay managing to already put us in 3rd place after the first event. This seemed to spark extra determination and fight into the children who went on to do amazingly in all their events. The boys first completed their field events which included, long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin, speed bounce and the chest push. Despite their lack of practice Byron Court managed to finish in first place in the triple jump and long jump, and finished 2nd in speed bounce. The girls began with the sprints; 1 by 1, 2 by 2, 6 lap race, and the over and under. They managed to win the 6 lap race and come either 2nd or 3rd in the rest.
After lunch the boys and girls swapped events. Just as they did with the field events, the boys did their very best on the track and didn’t come lower than 3rd in any race. We managed to win the 2 by 2 and only lose out on the 1 by 1 by a hairs length. Over at the field events the girls were doing just as superbly by coming in 2nd position for the long jump and the speed bounce. For the final race, the 4 by 1, all the boys and girls were brought back into the main hall to support their team mates. The girls’ race was first and they fought gallantly. You could see the focused expression on every lap by each girl and they managed to comfortably secure 3rd place. Finally the boys started their race. It was an agonisingly close contest for the first 3 laps and as Rashardo crossed the finish line on the final leg, no one was sure who had actually won, but it was eventually confirmed Byron Court boys finished 2nd in that race by the smallest of margins.
After all the results were totalled it was announced that of the 16 schools that had attended the competition, Byron Court had repeated their fantastic feat from last year and once again finished 3rd, just a few points behind 2nd place. Mr Khalfi, Miss Janger and Mr Randeria, who trained and took the children to the competition were so proud of every child’s effort and performance. They now look forward to the outdoor competition in June.

Brent Athletics Championships
Thursday 18th June
Byron Court took 14 children to the Years 5 and 6 Brent Athletics Championships at Willesden Sports Centre. Unlike the Athletics Festival in January, this event was staged outdoors and we were only allowed to enter one boy and one girl in each event. The children were involved in both field and track events with points allocated on time in the track events and distance in the field events.
All the children performed exceptionally well and showed an enormous amount of school spirit and pride. They ran with each other and supported each other at all times.
De’arnie came 3rd in the 200m race and earned us our first set of points on the track. Sejvir came 3rd in the javelin with an enormous throw that beat his last throw at the Athletics Festival and boys’ captain, Remi, won his field event in the vertical jump with a massive jump of 46cm!
The girls could not stop adding points to our tally! Jada came 2nd in the 800m race overtaking roughly 10 girls in the process! Shemoya came 3rd in both her track event of 200m and her field event, in the long jump. Girls’ captain, Jasmine, dominated in both her track event of 100m and her field event in the javelin and won both! Tashanee threw the chest push an amazing 9.41m and came 2nd and Ruth-Ann won the triple jump after jumping 8.10m, beating the runner up by a full metre!
Due to the positive performances from all team members, Byron Court finished the day as runners up! All members of the team were awarded a silver medal for their outstanding contributions and the events winners were also awarded a gold medal.
Miss Janger and Mr Khalfi are extremely proud of the team and how hard they have worked in training. They should all be very proud of themselves and they thoroughly deserve their medals!

Byron Court took a team of 21 children to participate in the Athletics Festival at Willesden Sports Centre. The children took part in both track and field events, with the boys in one team and the girls in another. Then both scores were combined to give an overall team standing. The team did exceptionally well and supported each other at all times.
Sejvir took part in the chest push and javelin events and he came 1st in chest push and 2nd in javelin, narrowly missing out on 1st by 1cm!
Jasmine and Ruth-Ann dominated their track event of 1x1 and finished in 1st place!
All other track events ended with Byron Court in 2nd place!
At the end of the competition, Byron Court came 3rd out of 11 schools with a points total of 410. A huge well done to the whole team for their effort and determination to do their best.
